These cars are normally controlled through a radio frequency link. These cars can be powered in many ways. Some common ways of using a power backup are having a small yet powerful motors and reusable or rechargeable lithium polymer, nickel-cadmium or nickel metal hydride cells. The electric motors can be both brushed and brushless. Mostly engines powered by fuel use small internal combustion engines, glow plug engines which use a specialized mixture of methanol and nitro methane as fuel and oil (normally a mix of synthetic oil and castor oil). Such cars are termed as “nitro” cars. Electric cars are simpler to operate but complex models are also available at a higher price range. Both the above categories offer off road and on road models. Off road vehicles have very wide tires and have a suspension which is fully functional. They can be used on a terrain of all types. On road vehicles have a less strong suspension and can be used only on smooth surfaces or roads. Many on road versions, in modern times have a very adjustable suspension like the normal full sized cars. There are some radio control cars which are labeled as “toy grade”. These cars are pre-assembled models normally found in consumer stores. Such cars are known as “Radio shack cars”. The radio control cars are available in 2 classes. The first class is a “toy grade” RC car and the second class is a “hobby grade” RC car which is available in the market. The toy grade cars are made like exact replicas of real cars whereas in the hobby class cars such minor details are overlooked. Some toy class cars have radio system or an MP3 player also fitted into them. They have details like interiors, windows, working lights and sounds. The radio controlled cars are available in the market in two types of packaging. One is the assembling kit pack where we can assemble the various parts of the car our self and completely customizes it.
The second form is the Ready to Run (RTR) pack wherein the car is completely ready to use when taken out of the packing. The ready to run cars are available in two models the nitro fuelled one and electrically operated one. They can reach a speed of 80 miles per hour in very less time. It is believed that the assembled or customized cars reach greater speeds than ready to run cars.
